Dear Staff of Baltimore Humane Society, I adopted "Mister" (a.k.a. "Mr. Darcy" now) on 4/8/09 and just wanted to let you know that he is adjusting beautifully. He's sooooooo affectionate and seems to be right at home already. He's such a love bug and seems to purr most of the time he's near. He's already found a few spots where he loves to lay - wicker seated chairs, couch arms, empty fireplace on a towel, linoleum floor in kitchen and laundry room, etc. And that's only when he's finished sitting in our laps, which is his favorite spot. Just lots of comfy places. He's had no problems with any clawing. In fact, he decided he likes to sharpen his claws on the fireplace bricks once a day, which is just fine with us. Though, we do have a nice, tall scratching post he hasn't quite noticed yet. He's obviously been around children, because he allowed my visiting niece to haul him everywhere without complaint. Very surprising! He seems to be eager to sneak out the front door when someone is coming or going, so I'm being extra careful. Plus, I went ahead and bought a collar and put his tags on it, in case he escapes unexpectedly. I'd be heartbroken, so I'll be extra careful. I'm just continuing to get to know Mr. Darcy's personality. He's only gotten upset twice, that we've seen (hissed, bite, scratched) so I'm trying to stay alert to his preferences and let him set the pace. We have our first check-up at the vet this coming Monday and we're going to let them trim his claws for the first time. Having seen his two temper episodes, I'm not eager to be on the receiving end. So, we thought we'd let the vet give it a try first. I'd like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to your organization. What a wonderful experience we had with you. Thanks especially to Erica who was incredibly patient and helped us visit with several beautiful kitties. We could really tell that she has a special touch with these cats. You all provide such a warm and loving environment in which to share the animals you have in your care. This was by far the best cat shelter I've seen - and the personnel were incredibly warm and helpful. Thanks again for the BEST experience! Blessings, Miss Sarah
